Single crochet is one of the basic stitches, one of the first stitches we learn when we learn crocheting...
It can be used in rows and rounds, is a simple, stitch that creates dense fabric without gaps or holes.
All though its simplicity, singe crochet, with a small change can be a sophisticated stitch.
In this post, and the video tutorial that follows I will show you how to make this small change.
The fabric that you will produce is fully reversible The Extended stitches are often used instead of he high stitches ( half double crochet, double crochet, treble etc) when creating cable stitches..
Extended Single Crochet, as the name suggests, is a taller one. Is something between the half double crochet and the single crochet but if you compare it with the hdc you will see that they have not the same high.
The technique to crochet the extended stitches are the same. Once you have learned one, you have learned all.
The difference between single crochet and extended single crochet is an intermediate phase that you should add.
To abbreviate we will call it ESC.
Abbreviations:
ESC = Extended Single Crochet Stitch
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
Instructions:
Step 1
Start with a small swatch, about 10-15 chs would be enough.
For the ESC you need turning ch of 1 at the end of each row, so if your swatch is a ch 10 you should add ch 1.
Step 2
Insert the hook into the next stitch or ch and pull up a loop.
Now you have 2 loops on the hook ( just as you do when you making a standard sc).
Step 3
Yarn over and pull only the first loop on the hook ( just like when you making a ch). You still have 2 loops on the hook.
Step 4
Yarn over and pull though both loops on the hook. You should have just 1 loop on the hook.
