Ultimate Guide on how to crochet the Basic Stitch Single Crochet and all its varieties
Crochet is a process of creating fabric by interlocking loops of yarn, thread, ....The single crochet (abbreviated sc)(called Double Crochet Stitch in the UK) is the most fundamental of all stitches in crocheting.
I've written this Guide in order to make a list of Single Crochet Varieties which could help you find easier all Single Crochet and master all Varieties. By clicking on the highlighted term you can have access to my video tutorials regarding each variety.

In order to start crocheting we make a slip knot and a foundation chain or a Magic Ring ( Magic Loop or Magic Circle).
Even if while crocheting we use the expression "Yarn Over", it is very important keep in mind that when crocheting in rounds there is the "Yarn Under" technique as well.

The Basic Single Crochet Stitch
Single Crochet Stitch can be crocheted both in Rows and Rounds.Step 1:
Skip the first chain
Step 2:
Insert the crochet hook into the next chain (see below picture a)
Step 3:
Yarn over (see below picture b)
Step 4:
Draw up a loop (you know have 2 loops on the hook)
Step 5:
Pass the yarn through both loops on the hook ( see below picture c)

Crossed Single Crochet Stitch
This stitch can be crocheted only in Rounds for round or oval projects.
In order to make this stitch we use the "Yarn Under Technique".

The Knit Single Crochet Stitch can be crocheted only in Rounds for round or oval projects.
In order to crochet this stitch we insert the crochet hook into the V created by the stitch.

The Back Loop Single Crochet Stitch can be crocheted both in Rounds and in Rows.

in this tutorial I am going to explain to all of you how I've made this little basket by using the Ribbed - Knit Stitch and Purl Stitch
Tiny Basket Instructions
Make the magic ring and 8 single crochets into the ring
Round 1 and Round 2:
ch 1 +1 sc( tinto the sale stitch), 2 single crochets in each one of the stitches throughout the round, sl st
Round 3:
ch 1, 1 Back Loop Single Crochet in each stitch throughout the round, sl st
If you wish to make larger the base of the basket you can add 1 round:
ch 1 + 1 sc into the same st, 1 sc in each one of the next 2 stitches, 2 sc into the next stitch, sl st
Round 4:
ch 1 +1 s c into the same st, 1 single crochet in each one if the stitches throughout the round, sl st
In order to make the rest of the basket I've used the Kint stitch and Purl stitch pattern

Alternate 1 knit stitch and 1 Purl Stitch till the end of the basket

If you want to make bigger the basket:
ch 1 + 1 single crochet, *1 single crochet in each one of the next 2 stitches, 2 single crochets into the next one*, sl st
Round 4:
ch 1 + 1 single crochet , 1& single crochet in each one of the stitches, sl st
Knit stitch:
Insert the hook into the V space of the stitch, draw a loop, yarn over, pass the yarn through both loops on the hook
Purl Stitch:
Insert the crochet hook into the back loop of the stitch, draw a loop, yarn over, pass the yarn through both loops on the hook
Alternate 2 knit stitches and 2 purl stitches
