Knitting Cast On Techniques Ultimate Guide on how to Cast On - 8 Different ways to Cast-on
Intro: Knitting Lessons; Cast On Techniques
Would you like start knitting? Would you like learn more on how to start knitting? You are at the right place !!!
To start knitting, you must first begin with a cast on. In this page you can find some of Casting On Techniques.
All knitting starts with Casting on. This creates loops (or stitches) on the needle which will become the first row of the stitches.
There are many different ways to get stitches on the needle so you can knit them, and it may seem like there are more techniques (or methods) than there are, because there are many different names for the same method.
Many knitters find a cast-on method they like (usually the one they first learnt) and stick to it, only using alternative methods for "special occasions". I fully agree but I suggest experimenting with a few new cast-on methods just for fun
Here I present you some cast on techniques which are the most commonly used. I would suggest you to Bookmark this page so you can see the new cast- on techniques added from time to time.
These techniques include:
The Long tail Cast OnThe Double Cast On ( also known as Double Stranded method or Cast On with two strands of yarn)
The knit cast-on method
The Simple cast-on method
Italian cast-on method also known ad German Twisted cast-on method or Old Norwegian cast-on method
Provisional Cast On (also known as Chain Edge Cast On)
Chain edge cast-on 2 methods
Cable Cast-on Method
Before you start a new knitting project, be sure to gather all materials (needles, sufficient amount of yarn etc) ahead of time.

Many knitters choose to begin their projects with the technique called "the long rail cast on". Is an easy way to learn it and one of the faster ways to get stitches onto the needles.
1. Before you start to cast on, leave a tail at the end of the yarn ( 3 times the length you need).
2. The first thing to do is to make the starting loop, the slip knot.
3. Keep the needle with your right hand.
4. Then by using the index and thumb fingers start getting stitches onto the needles.

The Tubular cast-on technique takes its name because the first Row ( the cast-on row) is created with double knitting ( Two layers of fabric knit simultaneously).
The Tubular Cast-On is similar to the long tail cast on and even if it is a little bit more difficult gives elasticity to the craft.
Before you start to cast on leave a tail at the end of the yarn ( 3 times the length you need) with which you will create the double yarn in order to cast on.
1.Then lake the starting loop, slip knot.
2. Keep the needle with your right hand.
3. Keep the yarn with your left hand. You are going to use the index and thumb fingers from which you will wrap the yarn in order to create loops ( stitches)

The Single Cast-On Method
The Single Cast-On Method is one of the simplest ways of casting on.
In order to cast on with this technique we use the thumb finger on which yarn over and pass the needle between thumb and yarn.

Rib Cable Cast On
A rib cable cast on produces a neat edging for 1x1 ribbing. It is similar in appearance to a tubular cast on but it is easier to work. The rib cable cast-on, also called the alternate cable cast-on, is a variant of the cable cast-on method. Similar to the cable cast-on, it also requires two needles, creates an even edge
To work a rib cable cast on:
Instructions:
Step 1. Make a slipknot.
Step 2. Place the slipknot on the left Knitting needle
Step 3. Insert the right needle through the slipknot, as if to knit.
