How to crochet Shell stitch and all shell stitch varieties
The Shell stitch refers to a pattern in which multiple stitches are worked into the same stitch. There is a variety of stitches, or for better say, a pattern that can be worked in multiple ways. Can be worked in rows and rounds. Is a stitch with which you can make blankets and edgings among other patterns.
This is an ultimate guide that teaches you the shell stitch varieties and with some patterns will help you practice.
It is important remember to count the number of the stitches you are about to work and the spaces that you should skip.
Remember the multiples on which each stitch consists. In order to help you for each stitch and practice pattern I will annotate the multiples.
This is the most known Shell stitch pattern. The foundation chain should be a multiple of 6+5 chs
In the video below you can learn how crochet the classic/solid shell stitch. The beginning and the end of the of this pattern is handled in different way from one pattern to another.
In order to help you practice I suggest you the pattern of two edges/borders:

This is a lot similar to the double crochet shell stitch with only difference the heights of the stitches and the stitches to skip between the shells.

Crochet the Brick Shell Stitch- Crochet the Crazy Shell Stitch - How to make the Brick Shell Stitch/SUBTITLES
In this tutorial I am going to show you how to make the Crazy Shell Stitch also called the Brick Shell Stitch
Start by making a foundation chain of 3 + 1 chs
3 double crochets into the 4th chain from hook
Skip 3 chs, 1 single crochet, ch 3, 3 double crochets into the next chain
End the row by making 1 single crochet, ch 3 and turn the work
Row 2 ( to be repeated throughout the work)
make 3 double crochets where you've made the last single crochet stitch of the previous row
Make 1 single crochet, ch 3, 3 double crochets in each ch3 space of the previous row

Multiple of 4 + 6 chs (for this tutorial I will make 18 chs)
Insert the hook into the 4th ch from hook, make 1 double crochet, 1 double crochet into the next stitch,
1 double crochet, ch 3, 1 double crochet into the next one
Skip 1 ch, 1 double crochet in each one of the next 2 stitches, 1 double crochet, ch 3, 1 double crochet into che next one
End the Row by making 1 double crochet in each one of the last 3 stitches che 3, turn rhe work
Row 2
Repeat Row 2 to desired length
Into each 3-ch space of the previous row make: 3 double crochets, ch 3, 1 single crochet
End the Row with 1 double crochet, ch 3, turn the work
In order to continue Repeat Row 2 to desired length

Some shell stitch patterns replace the double crochet stitch with a chain. This is the case of Lace Shell stitch or otherwise called V-Stitch Shell Stitch.

The Half Shell Stitch also called Tulip Stitch is a variety of Shell Stitch.
In order to make the half shell stitch/Tulip stitch we make a foundation chain of multiple of 4.
The main stitch is made by the sequence of 2 double crochets, chain 2, 1 single crochet all into the same space.
Dc3tog Cluster
When talking about Shall stitches we refer to clusters. Dc3tog means that 3 double crochets are worked together into the same stitch.

Foundation Chain of a multiple of 3 + 3
Make ch 1, 1 single crochet into the 2nd ch and 1 single crochet in each one of the stitches

First Wave:

Main Wave Stitch:

Multiple of 6 + 1 chains
Ch 1, 1 single crochet into the same stitch
Skip 2 stitches and make:
3 double crochets, 1 picot stitch, 3 double corchets (all into the same stitch)
Picot st = ch 3, join the 3rd with the 1st st with e slip stitch
Skip 2 stitches and make: 1 single crochet
Finish the edge with 1 single crochet stitch
